Kotoba Coach is a Japanese vocabulary learning app. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and what choices you have.
Information Stored on Your Device
Kotoba Coach stores learning data locally on your device so the app can remember your progress and study plan. This can include:
- Vocabulary progress, such as learned, review, and mastered status.
- Today’s word list and daily study settings.
- Review history, answer results, and reminder preferences.
- Cached translations that you request inside the app.
- Downloaded or cached audio files used for vocabulary and example playback.
Audio and Learning Content
The app may download vocabulary audio or example audio when needed and cache it locally for faster future playback. If an audio file is unavailable, the app may use device speech features to play Japanese text aloud.
Translations
When you tap a Translate action, the text you request may be sent to a translation service so the app can show a translation in your selected language. The translated result is saved locally for later display.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, Kotoba Coach schedules local notifications for study setup, progress checks, and study nudges. Notification preferences can be changed in Settings at any time.
Usage Analytics
Kotoba Coach may use Firebase Analytics to understand how people use the app, such as which JLPT level is studied, whether lessons or reviews are started, and whether learning actions are completed. Analytics events are used to improve learning content and app quality. The app does not send vocabulary meanings, example sentences, typed review answers, or payment card details through these analytics events.
Widgets and Apple Watch
Kotoba Coach may share limited study information with its widget and Apple Watch app, such as the current word, today’s progress, and today’s study list. This is used only to show learning status and support study actions.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Kotoba Coach does not receive or store your full payment card details.
Third-Party Services
The app may contact services used for analytics, translation, subscription validation, or hosting learning audio/content. These services may process technical information necessary to fulfill the request, such as network requests and requested text/audio file paths.
Data Deletion
You can reset learning progress from Settings. You can also remove local app data by deleting Kotoba Coach from your device.
