Privacy Policy
Calories Check provides AI-generated nutrition estimates only. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical, dietary, or professional nutrition advice.
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Calories Check ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Calories Check mobile application and related backend services.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use the app, we may process the following categories of information:
- Food photos: images you choose or capture for AI analysis.
- AI analysis results: estimated food names, calories, macronutrients, health score, suggestions, confidence level, and related text.
- Account identifiers: anonymous Firebase user ID and App Check tokens used to protect the service.
- Subscription and purchase data: Apple StoreKit transaction identifiers, product IDs, subscription status, renewal status, expiration dates, and app account tokens used to verify purchases and manage scan quota.
- Quota and usage data: scan counts, remaining scans, billing-cycle quota periods, and timestamps needed to enforce free and paid limits.
- Technical data: device, app, request, error, and server log information needed for security, debugging, abuse prevention, and service reliability.
- Local history: meal history and optional image data saved locally on your device using Apple's local storage technologies.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Analyze food photos and return calorie and nutrition estimates.
- Show scan history, daily summaries, and analysis results in the app.
- Verify subscriptions and restore purchases through Apple.
- Manage free, Premium, and Pro scan quotas.
- Secure the API, prevent abuse, detect fraud, and enforce rate limits.
- Debug crashes, improve reliability, and maintain the service.
- Comply with legal, tax, payment, App Store, and security obligations.
4. Food Photos and AI Processing
When you request an analysis, your selected food photo is uploaded to our backend and sent to an AI service provider for image analysis. We use the response to generate estimated nutrition information. We do not intentionally use your food photos to identify you.
Our backend is designed to process uploaded photos for the analysis request and not to store the original uploaded image as a permanent server-side photo library. The app may store your selected image locally on your device as part of meal history if you save the result.
5. Local Device Storage
Meal history is stored locally on your device. Clearing app data, deleting the app, or using the in-app clear history feature may remove locally stored meal history. Server-side quota and subscription records may remain because they are required to prevent abuse, verify purchases, and operate paid services.
6. Third-Party Services
We use third-party services to operate Calories Check, including:
- Apple: App Store distribution, in-app purchases, subscription billing, refunds, and transaction verification.
- Firebase / Google Cloud: anonymous authentication, App Check, Firestore quota records, service security, and backend infrastructure.
- OpenAI or another AI service provider: food image analysis and nutrition estimate generation.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers: API hosting, logs, security, and networking.
These providers process information according to their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control their independent privacy practices.
7. Payments and Subscriptions
Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your full payment card number. We receive transaction and subscription status data from Apple so we can unlock paid features and manage scan quota.
Apple's payment, refund, and subscription management terms apply to App Store purchases. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.
8. Data Retention
We retain server-side account, quota, transaction, and security records for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the app, enforce limits, verify purchases, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and maintain service integrity.
Local meal history remains on your device until you delete it, clear history, or delete the app.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including HTTPS, Firebase App Check, server-side purchase verification, rate limiting, and restricted access to server secrets. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
10. Children
Calories Check is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
11. Your Choices and Rights
You can delete local meal history in the app. You can manage subscriptions through Apple. Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of certain personal information. We may need to retain some records where required for security, fraud prevention, accounting, legal compliance, or purchase verification.
12. International Processing
We and our service providers may process information in countries other than where you live. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and may provide notice in the app or through other reasonable means.
